THE CLOWN AT THE END OF THE WORLD
 
“Venus has stopped orbiting the Sun!”
BANG! A balloon pops and now all the kids are crying
 
“Viiinus…no, Veeegaas…no, Vleeenus”
Why the fuck can't I type Venus into my phone?
 
I step outside to compose myself
I am, after all, a clown
 
“Venus has stopped orbiting the Sun!” another parent yells, frantic.
 
I am, however, as calm as a clown - the end of the world is just the circus I’ve been training for.
 
“Gather round kids, it seems that Venus has stopped orbiting the Sun.”
“Who?” one asks
“Venus”, I say. “Second planet from our star.”
 
I pause to ponder all of human existence.
And the animals, and the rivers, and the trees
And I feel….relieved,
That Venus has stopped orbiting the Sun.
A collision event, they say, has now begun.
