Ritual was born of several other pieces. The main flower-like shape that appears three times, each orbiting the black sphere, first appeared on a dress I painted for a fashion show. Later, I painted the same shape on a Little Free Library I donated to a community space. 
 
But that wasn’t enough! I loved this shape SO MUCH, I rendered it on a 36”x36” canvas as ‘Creature of Creation’, one of my most beloved paintings. 
 
Each of the artworks above had the shape depicted only once. It needed to appear MORE, and so ‘Ritual’ was born with it depicted three times. 
 
I named this abstract ‘Ritual’ for two reasons: my own attachment to creating this shape had itself become a ritual, and I see the three forms as beings performing a ritual around the black abyss. Perhaps it’s a cauldron, or a black hole, or something else entirely - whatever it is, they are definitely in Ritual with each other.
