This abstract was created on my iPad during bed rest for a broken ankle, incurred while playing leap frog at a dance party. Oopsie.
I was curious to know about the healing process that was taking place in my body so I took a deep dive into the biology of bone healing and let me tell you, it’s absolutely wild.
By the end of it I felt like a lizard growing back its tail and my body seemed to be very BUSY. This piece was originally known as ‘Busy Body’, inspired by the miraculous, coordinated chaos of osteoblasts partying in my ankle.
Over time, I couldn’t deny the unmistakable Balloon Animal energy it was giving off, and, given I tend to injure myself pretending to be other animals (broke a toe recently pretending to be a baby penguin), ‘Balloon Animals’ felt like a fitting title to capture the absurdity of, well, me, and the miracle of bone healing.
